SEO: What is Link Exchange

Reciprocal Link Exchange is a common practice among bloggers across the Internet. It is a good practice provided if it’s done the right way. Or else your blog or website can get banned easily by Google!
Before you start the Reciprocal Link Exchange thing you need to understand what it means.
Let’s take an example, you and your friend own different websites.

When you place a link to your friends site on your website and in return your friend places a link to your website on his site then it is termed as Reciprocal Link Exchange.
It’s like doing favor for each other in return of exchanging links with each other sites. This type of link building is beneficial in terms of SEO if you follow certain guidelines.
Google is very particular about whom you exchange your website’s link with. Follow these important points without fail and you should have no fear of getting banned by Google for improper link building techniques:
  • Link building should always be relevant with the type of website that you own. So you should not be swapping links with a weight loss website when your site is all about technology.
  • Google just wants you to do the right thing for your website visitors, exchange links only if it is going to be useful for your visitors.
  • Don’t exchange links to increase pagerank by buying or exchanging irrelevant links from other website.
  • Do not exchange too many links at the same time, go for quality and not quantity.
These guidelines should help you when you do a Reciprocal Link Exchange with another website. But as always without good quality content it is not going to be of much help just by exchanging links.
